Hackney Migrant Centre
This organisation meets on a weekly basis at St Mary’s offering advice and support to those who are from outside the EU. A number of our church members are involved in supporting this work on a voluntary basis.
Hackney Foodbank
Hackney is the second most deprived borough in England and The Hackney Foodbank is an essential resource giving a minimum of three days of emergency food and support to local people in crisis. We host the Foodbank at St Mary's every Thursday and it is partly staffed with volunteers from our congregations.
Second Chance Cafe
2nd Chance Cafe is an innovative social enterprise in the heart of Stoke Newington that uses food as the vehicle for building community, reducing social isolation and addressing the scourge of both food poverty and food waste. They offer a safe, warm and inclusive space where people from all walks of life can get involved, learn new skills and build bonds of trust and friendship.
Growing Communities
St Mary’s is a collection point for Growing Communities, a Hackney-based veg scheme that supports fair wages for farmers, with over 50% of your spend going back to the farmer. The produce is local and seasonal, and promotes healthy eating, community building and low-impact distribution. Growing Communities also donate produce to Second Chance Café for soups & smoothies.
Kehillah
This faith group meets at our premises on a regular basis. It is an intergenerational, diverse community that is welcoming to all who want to experience Judaism in a range of different ways whether secular, religious, historical, cultural, or for Jewish identity.
